New Job: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, People and Nature

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the “Renewing biodiversity through a people-in-nature approach (RENEW)” project. This project seeks to develop solutions to one of the major environmental challenges for humankind, the renewal of biodiversity. This NERC funded post is available from 1 August 2024 for two years.

Main purpose of the job:

The post entails data collection and analysis to address key questions about the variation in and temporal
dynamics of people’s relationships with nature, and their consequences. It is part of the NERC-funded RENEW project which seeks to develop solutions for renewal of biodiversity. This post will contribute to delivery of Theme 1, which focusses on better understanding the determinants, patterns, and consequences of individuals’ engagement with nature in order to improve the effectiveness of the methods used by many environmental organisations to develop public support for biodiversity renewal. Working on the first longitudinal cohort study of nature interactions, amongst other novel studies, the successful candidate (who could come from a wide variety of disciplines) will have the opportunity to develop and extend existing understandings of human-nature linkages, work with our network of over 30 project partners, and lead a number of high impact papers and outputs.

About you:

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in ecology and/or human-nature relationships, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants should have prior experience of working with large environmental and/or social datasets and should have proficiency in statistical analysis.
